Rental Power Enables Commissioning of New Refinery
Bina (Madhya Pradesh), India – 16 March 2011:
Aggreko, the global leader in the supply of rental power and temperature control services, has been awarded a
contract to provide a rental power package to
Bharat Oman Refineries Ltd (BORL). The rental
power package will be used to power the 6MMPTA refinery in
Bina, Madhya Pradesh, until the permanent power plant at the
refinery is commissioned.
In 2006, Bharat Oman Refineries Ltd commenced construction of
the new refinery, which included a 100 MW Captive Power Plant (CPP)
that was designed to operate on the petroleum coke produced from
the refinery. Due to delays in the commissioning of the CPP, BORL
was unable to begin the commissioning phase of the plant as
scheduled, although the refinery was ready to begin operations. For
this reason, BORL contacted Aggreko in order to determine if a
rental power package would be a suitable
solution.
After meeting with BORL, Aggreko designed a customised solution
for the commissioning of the refinery start-up. Due to the limited
land available for the housing of the rental power
plant, Aggreko proposed a solution whereby power would be provided
at three different locations within the refinery in different
phases throughout the rental period. Aggreko was the only
rental power provider with the ability to offer
BORL an end-to-end solution.
Based upon the proposal, BORL awarded the contract to Aggreko
for a period of five months. The power package was designed,
mobilised, installed and commissioned by Aggreko, with civil works,
site preparation and equipment operation also included as part of
the turn-key package. The first phase of the rental power package
was brought on-line on 17th October 2010 and has enabled BORL to
begin commissioning of the refinery.
Commenting on the project, Mr Abid Ahmed, Country Manager,
Aggreko India, said: “In the refining industry, even a few days of
delay in commissioning can have large financial implications. This
project highlights the value that Aggreko can bring to its
customers by providing flexible power packages specifically
tailored to individual needs. This is also our largest power
project in India to date, so I’m very pleased to see that the
concept of rental power is becoming increasingly accepted across
the country.”
Mr U.N. Joshi, Managing Director, Bharat Oman Refineries Ltd.,
said: “Aggreko's rental power package has enabled
us to commission our new refinery ready for operation as scheduled.
The Aggreko team have delivered on their commitment and have lived
up to their reputation of being fast, reliable power providers; the
rental plant was installed on-time and has operated flawlessly,
whilst overcoming many major hurdles including the import of
equipment and all operational approvals.”
